Surprisingly, or perhaps not so surprisingly, college degree programs in nursing are the fourth most popular choice for students entering college today. The recession-proof advantages of a healthcare career are obvious, particular in a profession stricken nationwide by shortages. Although no degree school currently offers nursing degree program that leads to nursing licensure, a number of online degree programs offer excellent opportunities for advancement.

Several years ago, nursing programs that led to licensure as a registered nurse did exist, but graduates missed valuable clinical opportunities and the credibility of the programs were intensely questioned. As a result, accredited university and college programs decided only to offer online Bachelor’s Degree Programs and graduate degree programs in nursing instead. These allowed online degree university programs to maintain high standards for quality in education.

Although the high demand for nurses and the popularity of nursing degree programs has caused intense interest in these entry-level distance degree programs, most accredited universities will probably not offer them any time in the near future. The current nursing shortage has severely limited the number of clinical instructors available. Unless top online college degree programs offer significantly more money than traditional campus programs do, this trend will continue for the foreseeable future.
