Increasing numbers of distance learning degree programs are being offered to students seeking the flexibility and convenience of online education. How do online degree universities know what degree programs are likely to be successful as distance learning opportunities? Here are a few rules to help you consider whether the program that interests you is likely to be offered at some point by an online degree university.

First, consider the amount of practical or hands-on experience required to earn a degree. Bachelor Degree nursing programs, for example, are often offered online, but at present, no online university degree program offers an entry-level Bachelor Degree or Associate Degree in nursing. This is because of the intensity and practical requirements of the degree course.

Likewise, other medical sciences rarely offer degrees online. Only a few colleges offer distant learning pharmacy degree options, and these programs are only for students who already have a Bachelor Degree in pharmacy. Of course, no schools currently offer medical degrees online.

Few online science degree programs are available, and these do not primarily focus on the natural sciences.
