Lab Technician – Technicians are responsible for running tests and procedures on patients. In typical cases they report to the lab manager or lab technologists. Entry level in this career requires an associate’s degree. It is a requirement of certain states that these professionals be licensed. Statistics show that median annual earnings for lab technicians in 2008 were $35,380.

Dental Hygienist – These professionals are responsible for providing preventive dental care by teaching the patients how to maintain close to perfect dental hygiene. They are under supervision of the dentists. To enter into this career you need to have an accredited certificate from dental hygiene school preferable with an associate’s degree. Based on 2008 statistics, dental hygienists earned an annual salary of $64,740.

Ultrasound Technician – Ultrasound technicians are usually trained on how to use special equipment which makes use of sound wave technology thus diagnosing patients’ conditions and ailments. To get into this career line, an associate or bachelor’s degree is very important. In 2008 they earned an annual salary of $61,980.

EMT and Paramedic – These professionals administer emergency medical care to injured or ill people to stabilize them as they are being transported to the hospitals. There are three levels of training for those who want to work ea emergency medical personnel. They are: EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate and Paramedic. Paramedics and EMTs must be licensed in all states. Back in 2008 the Paramedics earned a median salary of $29,330.

Licensed Practical Nurse – These nurses take upon the responsibility of caring for the patients who may be injured, sick, disabled or convalescing. To become a licensed nurse you have to attend a one-year training program that is approved by the state. On completion, the potential nurse then sits for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN). Statistics from two years ago show that they earned an annual salary of $39,030.

Radiologist and Technician – Radiologist and technicians do imaging examinations for diagnostics purposes using x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, and computed tomography (CT). Radiologist perform the MRIs, CT scans and the mammography while the technicians perform only the x-rays. They must receive formal training in radiography to qualify for the position. Most often, their training reaches associate degree level. Yearly earnings for this profession in 2008 amounted to $52,210.

Surgical Technologist – These professionals help during surgery and work under supervision of registered nurses and the surgeons. Usually, people who want to get into this career complete a nine to 12 month course where they receive relevant training. Their annual median salary for 2008 was $38,740.
