Graduate Record Exam GRE

There are two different kinds of GRE exams: the GRE subject exam, and the GRE general exam.

The General exam assesses analytical writing, quantitative, and verbal skills which have been obtained over a lengthy span of time and, which aren’t linked to any particular area of study. Credit for the GRE general exam is not awarded by any accredited college in the U.S.

The GRE Subject Exam helps the graduate school admission committees in assessing the eligibility of the candidates in specific areas of study. The exam scores allow them to compare the students from various institutions having different undergraduate programs.

Subject Exams are presently obtainable in eight disciplines.

  • Biology
  • Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Literature in English
  • Computer Science
  • Mathematics
  • Psychology
  • Physics

At the time of registering for a Subject Exam, you’ll be sent a Subject Exam Practice Book for free which describes the exam in detail. Also, you are now able to download the free practice books.

Other Resources

There are 2 other ways of obtaining credit without attending campus. “Departmental Test-Outs”, in which students request the final examination and the lecturer, consents to test them in a specific study course, and “end-of-course exam” in which students take the final examination of a correspondence course.

Among the colleges permitting this kind of examinations are the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and the Ohio University (Athens). Though, a lot of other colleges permit this in case you request. The credits can be sent to a different college.

There are times when we cannot learn by ourselves and call for taking a course, particularly when it’s for a needed course which we just cannot seem to check in. Colorado Community Colleges are among my favorite online programs. Proctored examinations are not required by any of the classes. The examinations are online, open-book, and timed. Visit www.ccconline.org/ for further info and courses that are available.
